The queue in the bus stop was longer than I expected it to be; it’s just the first phase ease of the lockdown, I wonder where this crowd is coming from.
With the queue on ground, I knew I won’t be opportune to take the bus rapid transit, it is almost 8pm before the curfew, I need to find a way to get to my family.
I know Oshodi to be a crowded but with what’s before my eyes, the crowd has tripled!
I guess people are frustrated staying lockdown at home for almost two months.
I sighed heavily as I sighted a dafo bus coming towards my direction, I hung my backpack on my chest ready to jump on the moving bus before people take their chances.
“Oga! Wear your nose mask.” The conductor ordered.
I obeyed immediately as I find a seat to sit, the transport fare had doubled due to the protocols observed, the limited passengers in the bus.
As we head towards agege with the heavy traffic, I thought about how I’ve exhausted my savings on my family during the lockdown period.
We had to eat twice a day in order to cover expenses, when the government promised us palliatives, I thought it would top up our game but it only worsened it.
My two-year-old daughter disturbes the serene at night with her cries, my wife have to feed her with soak garri so she won’t disturb the neighbors.
The last thing I would want to do as a man is wash my dirty clothes in public.
I keep my dignity as a man even if I have to sleep on an empty stomach.
Oblivious to my surrounding, I thought about my struggle as a man in a country like Nigeria, high hopes of getting a better days in the midst of this COVID 19.
The increase cases of COVID 19 patients from Nigeria centre for disease control, the cases from Lagos, Abuja and Ogun state is worrisome.
I need to get back to my feet! I sighed heavily.
There was a loud sneeze from the back seat, everybody in the bus exclaimed, I turned to know who it was.
The passenger only smiled and apologize, told us we’re safe, he’s not infected with the virus.
