We were at the verge of writing our Exams until we were told to vacate the school premises within a period of 3 days , although the news didn’t struck our minds because it has already being rumoured that our exams will be suspended but we took it as a mere hearsay . I told my parents about the sudden news and also requested my friend Raheem came stay with us since his family stays in Ondo State and the notice for vacation came timely, besides travelling back home would cost a lot. my parents gave their consent since the break was thought to be for a short period of time and because Raheem was a good friend of mine they’ve known for so long. Grandpa’s house it is, Raheem and I travelled to the village to spend the break with my Grandfather . Grandpa has always taken a great pride in the house which was built couple of decades ago in the prime of his youth. The two storey white house front onto a dirt road along which there is a noisy stream traffic. The elevated position gives one a magnificent view of the spire of the dilapidated church as well the vast expense of farmland neighbourhood. At our arrival, Grandma displayed her culinary skills while grandpa regales us with his jokes and tales. They were very excited seeing us they hugged us aggressively and gave a warm kiss . this was so welcoming and we were happy to have come. Raheem and I would often sit on the veranda and watch the dogs and domestic fowl scavenging for leftovers like disgruntled predatory vultures. On one occasion we witnessed the entrance of our neighbor’s son named James , who was undergoing his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) but returned home. Since his returned , I have kept a close watch and noticed he barely comes out and does not associate with people. The few times I saw him, he appeared weary and depressed; so all the does was to sprawl in front of his house with mouth ajar. Few days later, grandpa was sitting on his well polished wooden chair with his radio set just beside him, listening to the daily news; Raheem and I also listened with rapt attention as we drew closer to where he sat stiffly . so, it was reported that the WHO (world Health Organization) has declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency precisely on the 30th of January 2020 and enlightened us on the major symptoms and several preventive measures . immediately after the news, Grandpa asked us to go to the nearest hospital to get sanitizers, gloves and nose mask; while we passed at our neighbor’s house I saw with his friends who came visiting; I eavesdropped on their conversation and found out that James had been feeling weak, suffering from fever and also dry cough since he came back from Lagos; I quickly recalled that those were symptoms of COVID-19. I became muddled and ran fast to catch up with Raheem who was distance away. Few weeks later, we were told by Grandpa that James was tested positive to COVID-19 and have been kept in the isolation center for treatment, I felt really bad for him and his family but we all hope for a quick recovery
