Towards the end of the year 2019, there was an outbreak of a life-threatening pandemic called COVID 19 which was caused by a coronavirus infection.
This put a halt to almost the global activity of men because it was seen as a major pandemic in recent time,
Many lives were reportedly lost as a result of the virus.
Hence, the government has issued state and interstate Lockdown of all kind Everyone is advised to stay off their usual work life. The slogan is ” stay safe” students are not left out as there is high crowd. School, religious gatherings and other form of gatherings are shutdown. The period in which we live, in the history of mankind, naturally almost forces everyone especially those who are not disciplined, to be idle without any excuse.
Many things make covid19 quite unique it is easily transmitted from person to person unlike other ailments that has even killed more people than it has done. This is the reason it has received special attention more than malaria. Another uniqueness of covid19 is that it has for the first time in many years brought the world to a halt as well as served as a menace to the whole of humanity. Finally, it currently has no known cure! Schools, offices, businesses, leisure, institutions are shutdown across the globe with it’s monumental impacts some projections have it that in another 3 months over 33.3 million Nigerians would have lost their jobs and means of Livelihoods with more jobs being Lost people without the fear of God will turn into societal vices as a survival strategy stealing will be prevalent and many more.
This is why it is very important for us as a students and youths to take full advantage of the situation, protect ourselves from being victims of the pandemic and then prepare for post pandemic Life
Executive order: The sporadic spread of the covid19 pandemic has caused more countries to use executive orders to force compliance aimed at reducing the spread of the virus. Our country is no exception as we had 4 weeks of mandatory stay at home.
Breakdown of law and order: As people are not used to being stationary in one place, others have used the excuse of lack of food to break Lockdown rules and stories of some notorious gangs terrorizing resident were everywhere
International travel restriction: Many countries have placed a ban on people coming from other countries from entering their country Airlines are grounded. The ripple effect of this is joblessness, poverty and hunger
Loss of Jobs: Every organisations survives on cash flow i.e the ability to earn money to meet their Immediate obligations once the source of that money stops they file for what is known as bankruptcy. When parents can no longer provide for their children, some children get themselves in various delinquent actions such as prostitution, internet fraud, stealing, gambling and many more.
Health care worries: Nigerian hospitals witnessed 50% drop in the number of patients that visit them between March April and May 2020 people became scared that who knows if a covid 19 patient had visited the hospital before, so they do not pick up the virus from there.
Closure of religious centers: Churches have been closed down at this time.
Response to the Pandemic
The pandemic has brought a great halt to the everyday business of life. It has given all a reason to think back and reflect on life as a whole. There are things a dutiful student can do taking advantage of the situation at hand.
Precaution and safety: we student should observe great caution at this time. This is not the time for unwanted visitation as you cannot tell where whom you are visiting has been to. Stay indoors and make good use of the time on hand. Wear a face mask get hand sanitizers along with you as you move around to minimize the risk of infection
Enhance your knowledge:- Many people are taking courses and programs online, Not all of them are merely academic but some are aimed at giving financial empowerment. Others may be taking milestones ahead of school calendar some Learn bead making, musical instruments or even coding and robotics for all astute young professionals
– Build a business
– prayer investment
– Active online worship participation
– learning a digital skill not known before now
– Avoid Gluttony, idleness, Careless, Visitation, Cyber, Attrocities, immorality, Rape or Being Raped.
