Lagos – Cameroonian Samuel Eto’O Fils has rue the Round of 16 meeting between the Indomitable Lions and the Super Eagles at this level. The match comes up at Alexandria Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking to Africa Presse, a local media outfit, on the match, the striker said it was not good for the tournament that the two giants were meeting at this level, adding that such meeting would have been better experienced at the final or at the later stages in the championship.
“It is bad playing Nigeria at this level because we are the defending champions and Nigeria are a big country as long as this competition is concerned. The two countries would have met at the final and it will be a befitting final for this competition.
“But it can also be at the semifinal because it will be a big spectator for the entire continent. I wish that we play this great country in the final,” he said.
Nigeria have met Cameroon 22 times before Saturday’s tie the Super Eagles have won 11 times as against Cameroon’s four. But Cameroon have defeated Nigeria when it mattered most, with the reigning champions winning three of their five AFCON titles at the expense of Nigeria.
