Mr Kalu, who was jailed in December 2019 alongside Ude Udeogu, former Director of Finance and Account for allegedly stealing public funds, was released after the Supreme Court voided their conviction and ordered a retrial of the case.
It’s National President, Mr Chimaobi Daniel, in a statement made available to CAMPUSLIFE in Abia State last week Monday said that Kalu’s victory was “the will of the people of the God’s own state, and his presence on the igbo soil exemplifies that the igbos cannot be broken”.
The victory, according to Daniel clearly acknowledged his outstanding services to the people of Abia during his administration as the Executive governor of the state and also the will of students studying home and abroad.
Mr. Kalu touched all sectors within his first tenure of stewardship when he was the governor. He was able to effect considerable development in all sectors of the state, especially the educational sector which concerns students the most.
Daniel noted in his statement ”On May 8 this year, the Supreme Court in an unanimous judgment panelled by seven-members, led by Justice Amina Augie, held that the Lagos court lacked Jurisdiction when it convicted Mr Kalu, his firm, Slok Nigeria limited, and Mr Udeogu, this he said was the lacuna that soften the ground for his release.
This played a major role in convincing the Isukwuato students community, that the innocence of their magnanimous father means that his integrity and competence can never be smeared or jeopardized.
Today, we want to make it known to the general public that we as the indigenious students of the state has however reaffirmed our love and moral support for him, as his victory at the Supreme Court and his return to national duty commensurate his innocence and profound leadership prowess.
Daniel added that the judicial victory had eliminated any form of distraction and given the Senator more time to focus on executing his national assignment as the Chief Whip of the National Assembly.
“As long as he remained on the right track, we will always give him our full moral support and encouragement. His success has given us confidence to work within the system. We look forward to hearing about many more of his giant strides now he has returned back to the Senate to assume his constitutional duty as the Chief Whip.
