Nwamadi, the Parish Priest of Maria Rosa Mystica,Iindependence Layout, Enugu made the call in Enugu on Tuesday
According to him, Valentine is a celebration of love and kindness but many people have disrupted the good intentions into something that is not spiritual.
“The main aim was to gather children together and celebrate them and by that, will make them know God.
“Valentine is all about love centered on God, but people have gone extra mile out of the system which is now the base with immorality.
“The Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the 40 days fasting with Jesus Christ.
“Ash is not a sign of beauty, it is a sign of looking more ugly and admitting your sinfulness to God.
“This is an ash Valentine, you cannot be enjoying while you are repenting. You cannot eat your cake and have it.
“Every individual has the option of following God or the devil, so we can say goodbye to Valentine this year and God we are here for you,” he said.
Also speaking with the news agency of Nigeria, Venerable Kenneth Anaezi Chukwuolu of the Anglican Church of Resurrection Power, New heaven, Enugu advised youths to change their formal ways of celebrating Valentine and show love in Christ.
“The ash Wednesday is the beginning of lent in the Christian calendar, when the church takes time to reflect on what Jesus Christ passed through to secure the salvation of man.
“The love that should be celebrated is the love Christ showed to us which is an Agape kind of love and not the love people translate to mean lust.
“Every youth should head to the church on the Feb. 14 and should have an agreement and covenant with God.
“God is warning the youths that the formal ways of celebrating Valentine is wrong, but the better way to do it is to show love in Christ,” he said. (NAN)
