Most Nigerian Footballers have their Grass to Grace stories to tell.
Some found it difficult to afford good food after training, some beg before buying good boots while resorted to Hawking for survival.
Everyone have their stories to tell as life has it cycle.
Ademetan Abayomi takes a look at nine Nigerian Footballers who were born in the ghetto, their nicknames and net worth.

1. Obafemi Martins
Obafemi Martins who is better known as Obagoal, is a fast paced footballer. Obagoal was raised in Orile, Lagos.
The fast striker lists Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Wolfsburg, Rubin Kazan, Birmingham City, Levante, Seattle Sounders and Shanghai Shenhua as his former clubs. He is alleged to be worth over $35 million.
2. Odion Ighalo
Odion Ighalo is on the payroll of Manchester United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua. In 2019 he was the African Cup of Nations top scorer.
Nicknamed ‘Nigerian R9’ by Manchester United fans, Odion Ighalo is alleged to be worth $23 million.
3. Yakubu Aiyegbeni
Yakubu Aiyegbeni, popularly known by his admirers as Yak also grew up struggling with life.
He made it big donning the colours of Maccabi Haifa, Gil Vicente, Julius Berger, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, Blackburn Rovers, Al Rayyan amongst others. Reports has it that he is worth $15 million.
4. Ahmed Musa
Ahmed Musa, popularly known as Myca, is a Nigerian player and winger who defended the colours of VVV Venlo, CSKA Moscow and Leciester City in the past.
He is currently enjoyed oil money on the books of Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. He also alleged to be worth $10 million.
5. Kelechi Iheanacho
Kelechi Iheanacho, better known as ‘Mr VAR’ following his controversial winner for Leciester City against Everton, is a Nigerian footballer, striker and entrepreneur.
He grew up in a rag tag environment and eventually made it. It is alleged that he is worth $8m.
6. Olarenwaju Kayode
Olarenwaju Kayode whose nickname is Larry, is a Nigerian forward, husband and father.
He was born in the dusty streets of Ibadan, and is of Nigerian origin. It is also alleged that he is worth $7 million.
7. Kanu Nwankwo
Kanu Nwankwo, better known as Papillo, is an ex-Nigerian footballer and businessman. He was formerly on the books of Ajax Amsterdam, Inter Milan, Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth.
The striker performed in an advert for Peak, where his childhood was revealed. Papillo’s mum assured him that he will her proud. “Papillo I know say one day you go make me proud”. The striker did made his mother product winning many laurels including the UEFA Champions League, Olympic Games, Premier League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup and Community Charity Shield. Apparently, he is worth $7 million.
8. Anthony Nwakaeme
Born in Ajegunle, Anthony Nwakaeme better known as Tony, is a Nigerian footballer currently on the books of Trabzonspor.
His elder brother Dickson also plays football at Pahang FA. Reports also has it that Tony is worth $3 million.
9. Wilfred Ndidi
Wilfred Ndidi, known commonly as, The Spider is a Nigerian defensive midfielder. He is an Igbo boy but born and raised in the Barracks way in Lagos.
The Leciester City star hawked in the streets to survive. He is also alleged to be worth $2m.
